We are seeking a Senior Employee Relations Adviser to join the People and Culture Division at ANU. This is your opportunity to contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture, tackle meaningful challenges, and grow your career with us.

This is an opportunity for an experienced HR practitioner to take on the role of Senior Adviser - Employee Relations. The position reports to the Senior Manager - Employee Relations, operating with a high degree of autonomy.  The Employee Relations team provides expert advice and case management on a range of complex people management issues.

The Employee Relations team is part of the broader ANU Strategy & Planning team within the People and Culture Division, and in this role, you will be exposed to a range of strategic projects that w. Utilise your knowledge to make an impact while building expertise within a supportive and dynamic team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on escalated employee relations matters including performance management, serious misconduct, disputes, grievances, review of decisions and other complex matters.
  • Support and coach internal stakeholders, primarily HR Business Partners and Senior leaders, in navigating workplace matters, ensuring compliance.
  • Interpret and apply industrial instruments, employment law, and policies.
  • Lead workplace investigations, delivering fair and timely outcomes.
  • Play a key role in the team responsible for Enterprise Bargaining negotiations.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes, and industry trends and contribute to continuous improvement across the University.
  • Contribute to a range of strategic projects and initiatives including supporting organisational change.

Our ideal candidate:

  • A strong background as a generalist or specialist in managing ER/IR matters.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment laws, industrial relations, and ideally, Fair Work Commission processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholders and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and matters with discretion
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated qualities of professionalism and integrity.
