Position overview

Are you an experienced software engineer with a passion for leading and building teams? We’re looking for a technical leader to help build a new, permanent Research Software Engineering (RSE) team within the Humanities and Social Science Digital Research Hub (HDRH). This team will be at the forefront of innovation in the research, humanities, and social sciences landscape. As the Principal Research Software Engineer, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4 full-time RSEs, with additional fixed-term roles starting during 2025.
  • Work closely with the Hub director, academic and professional services staff, post-doctoral researchers, and GLAM sector colleagues.
  • Establish a comprehensive Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and build robust supporting infrastructure.
  • Identify and implement the most appropriate frameworks and tools for cutting-edge software solutions.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of both new and legacy projects.
  • Drive innovation across a wide spectrum of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) tools and methodologies, providing unparalleled support to the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) and broader academic community at ANU, with a national reach.
