Salary package: $115,511 - $123,519 per annum plus 17% superannuation

Position Overview
This is a critical role in a friendly, motivated team providing unique, heavy-ion radiation testing services for the space sector, advanced materials and the life sciences, within the Heavy Ion Accelerators (HIA) National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) project. HIA operates heavy-ion accelerators at the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne, providing accelerated ion beams for a wide variety of research and industry applications.
As the Team Leader for the Space Irradiation Beamline (SIBL) within the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), you will be responsible for engagement with current and prospective users of the facility, and the planning, design and execution of heavy-ion irradiation campaigns, using the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility to irradiate user-provided materials and devices such as electronics intended for space applications, novel radiation shielding materials and biological samples.
User demand for HIAF-SIBL is growing rapidly. HIAF-SIBL is part of the Australian Space Qualification Network (NSQN), a network of complementary facilities providing rigorous testing and qualification of spacecraft components within Australia. Find out more about the NSQN here: https://nsqn.org
The Person
We are looking for a candidate who combines deep expertise in nuclear physics or a closely-related discipline with strong interpersonal and client liaison skills, enjoys challenging problems and encourages team members and colleagues to workshop effective solutions, is highly organised and takes a strong interest in the professional development of their team. You will have a postgraduate degree in physics or be within six months of the degree being awarded.
