The Position
The ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to take on the role of Deputy Manager, Higher Degree by Research (HDR). This position provides leadership in HDR support across the College, overseeing a high-performing team responsible for delivering expert administrative services across the HDR student lifecycle—from admission through to graduation.
The Deputy Manager ensures the provision of responsive, high-quality advice to students and academic staff, coordinates the implementation of research education initiatives, and supports compliance and continuous process improvement. Working closely with the Senior Manager, Student and Education Support, and academic leaders, the Deputy Manager aligns HDR operations with both College and University strategic priorities.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with a strong background in HDR administration and research education support, ideally within a tertiary setting. The Deputy Manager will demonstrate an understanding of HDR policy and process, and possess the capacity to lead teams, manage complex operational requirements, and contribute to the strategic objectives of a research-intensive university.
The role requires a demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships, analyse data, implement policy, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in team supervision, staff mentoring, and the delivery of service improvements is essential. A commitment to inclusion, high-quality service delivery, and continuous enhancement of research education support will be fundamental to success in the role.

The position is situated within the Student and Education Support team at the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy. This team supports the academic and research mission of the College by delivering expert administrative services, with a strong commitment to student engagement and excellence in education support. The Deputy Manager, HDR plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality HDR operations and fostering a positive and enriching research experience for students.
