Salary package: $138,182 - $144,783 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full time, Fixed term (up to 24 months)
The Position
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will work as part of the Network and Communications Team within the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer and establish effective, customer focused working relationships with business areas and technical teams to deliver ICT network projects and improvement initiatives that directly contribute towards achieving the University’s strategic objectives. The University is in the process of implementing a new network and undertaking a substantial upgrade across its unified communications capabilities. Knowledge and experience with Software Defined Networking and Spine/Leaf Technology and infrastructure as code will be a significant advantage. Networking within a multicast experience will also be an advantage as this role will be working directly with the Audio-Visual team on implementation of new AV/Unified communications technologies.
The Person
The Senior Network Engineer at ANU is an Enterprise expert responsible for the strategic design, governance, and continuous evolution of the University’s enterprise network environment. Operating with a high level of autonomy, this role provides authoritative technical leadership across fixed, wireless, data centre, and telecommunications networks utilising Software Defined networking and infrastructure as Code Scripting capabilities, ensuring the University’s digital infrastructure is secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with the Digital Master Plan. The Senior Network Engineer must be a collaborative individual, comfortable with working in a team environment (both internal and cross team) and must be an excellent communicator (written and verbal)
The Senior Network Engineer engineer acts as a senior technical advisor to Network Operations Manager, leads major transformation initiatives, and shapes long‑term network architecture. They collaborate with Colleges, Service Divisions, and project teams to deliver a seamless, high‑performance digital experience that supports world‑class research, teaching, and operational excellence.
The School/Department
The Network Operations function at ANU is responsible for ensuring the University’s fixed and wireless network services remain reliable, secure, and high‑performing across the Acton campus and all satellite sites. Its broad responsibilities span day‑to‑day operations, incident response, design validation, and the delivery of secure, scalable network infrastructure that supports ANU Digital Master Plan. Network Operations are also responsible for managing Network infrastructure lifecycle and delivering and running network projects supporting ANU Digital Master Plan
The College/Division
The Position sits within the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at ANU which holds broad, university‑wide responsibility for safeguarding the institution’s digital ecosystem, shaping security strategy, and ensuring resilience against cyber and information‑security threats. The CISO's remit spans strategic leadership, operational security functions, governance, culture, and risk management, as reflected in Information Security Office mandate and CISO role expectations.
The ANU Office of the CISO is responsible for protecting the University’s digital environment, leading cyber and information security strategy, managing operational security functions, ensuring governance and compliance, and building a resilient, human‑centric security culture that supports ANU world‑class research and teaching mission.
