Help shape the future of digital transformation at the Australian National University

  • Contribute to delivery of the ANU Digital Plan
  • Work remotely across Australia or onsite at our beautiful campus
  • Join a highly collaborative, values-driven and supportive team

About the Role and the Impact, You’ll Make

ANU is undertaking a focused review of existing finance processes to better understand where inefficiencies, duplication and pain points occur and where improvements can deliver greater value.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to lead the analysis of current finance processes and work with stakeholders to identify practical opportunities for improvement.

You will review existing findings, document current-state processes, facilitate business process mapping workshops and help stakeholders build a shared understanding of how finance services operate end to end. Using a human-centred and evidence-based approach, you will help identify underlying problems, assess impacts and shape future improvement opportunities.

You will work closely with Finance stakeholders, PeopleSoft Functional Analysts, technical developers and other delivery specialists to ensure proposed improvements consider business needs, systems, processes and the experience of the people who use them.

In this role you will:

  • Lead discovery and business process mapping workshops with Finance and University stakeholders.
  • Document current-state processes, business rules, pain points, hand-offs and dependencies.
  • Identify duplication, inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for simplification or improvement.
  • Apply a human-centred approach to understand the impacts of current and proposed processes on users.
  • Develop clear process maps, analysis outputs, options and recommendations.
  • Contribute to shaping a consistent and collaborative business analysis practice through the ANU Analysis Chapter

About You

You are an experienced Senior Business Analyst with strong business process analysis and facilitation skills.

You are comfortable walking into a complex environment, understanding how work is really performed and helping stakeholders distinguish symptoms from underlying problems. You can move between detailed process analysis and broader service or organisational impacts without losing sight of the outcome.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated Senior Business Analyst experience in complex transformation, process improvement or service improvement environments.
  • Strong experience in end-to-end business process analysis, process mapping and future-state design.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops and engage effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience eliciting, analysing and documenting business requirements and translating complex business and system issues into clear, practical outcomes.
  • Experience identifying inefficiencies, risks, dependencies and improvement opportunities across business processes and services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with functional specialists, technical teams and developers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting testing and quality assurance to ensure solutions meet functional and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to shaping a consistent and collaborative business analysis practice through the ANU Analysis Chapter.

Highly desirable

Experience in one or more of the following would be highly regarded:

  • Finance or financial administration processes
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials
  • Higher education, government or another large, federated organisation
  • Lean, process improvement or service improvement methodologies
  • Human-centred design or service design
  • BPMN, Visio or other process modelling approaches and tools
  • Business transformation involving policy, process and technology change

You do not need to be a finance accountant or PeopleSoft technical specialist. We are looking for a strong Senior Business Analyst who can work confidently with Finance and technical specialists, understand end-to-end impacts and help stakeholders identify where meaningful improvement can be achieved.
