The Electronics Unit

The ANU Electronics Unit provides electronics support to College of Science and Medicine, primarily for the Research School of Physics and the John Curtin School of Medical Research. It also provides on-demand support to any other ANU school, staff, student, or associated company. The small but well-resourced team facilitates education, research and innovation by providing design, repair, modification, installation and re-engineering services for all manner of electronic and electromechanical devices and systems.

The Position

The successful applicant will join the team delivering these services. The Technical Officer will employ a broad range of technologies and techniques to solve both common and unique problems, often with little or no documentation. The role therefore demands critical thinking, a systematic approach, and the ability to rapidly acquire new knowledge and information. Assignments may range from simple inspections, through assembly, service, and repair, up to moderately complex ECAD and MCAD design and/or modification. The workshop environment requires strict observance of Work Health & Safety procedures, policies and regulations.

The Person

The ideal candidate is one who is collaborative, adaptable, curious and analytical. One with a desire to achieve goals as a team, and to expand the team's capabilities. They possess honed diagnostic and observational skills, and experienced at soldering and rework. They will have demonstrated experience of complex component-level troubleshooting and repair, and proficiency with common test equipment. They will be competent at moderately complex ECAD and MCAD design. The nature of the work requires task agility as well as disciplined time tracking and management habits. Our exposure to the broader ANU community requires proficiency in all forms of communication.

The School

The Research School of Physics is a leading institution dedicated to advancing the field of physics and its practical applications. With a rich history spanning over 75 years, the School has a distinguished record of scientific discoveries and translational successes. Our team of over 500 faculty, staff, and students is our most valuable asset, driving interdisciplinary collaborations and fostering innovative research excellence.

The College

The Australian National University’s College of Science and Medicine delivers world-class research and education in astronomy, biological sciences, chemistry, Earth sciences, medical research, medicine, physics, and psychology. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science and Medicine conduct research and deliver a research-led education program that encompasses the breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities.
