Position overview

About Us

Seeking expressions of interest from experienced ANU leaders to join the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) as Senior Adviser. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic support and advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) on complex institutional priorities across education, research, governance and strategy.

The role offers direct exposure to executive decision-making, governance and whole-of-University strategic coordination at the highest levels of the University.

The Role

The Senior Adviser is a key strategic role within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), providing direct support to the Provost across a broad portfolio spanning education, research, governance and institutional strategy.

Working closely with the Director, Education Portfolio, the role operates at the centre of the University’s academic leadership and decision-making. The Senior Adviser supports the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) to navigate complex and fast-moving issues, ensuring advice is timely, well-informed and aligned to institutional priorities, while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education).

The role requires sound judgement, strong interpersonal capability and the ability to synthesise complex information quickly and clearly. Operating in a high-trust environment, the Senior Adviser will engage closely with senior leaders across the University, government and external stakeholders, while managing sensitive matters with professionalism and care.

The Person

The successful candidate will be an experienced strategic adviser with a demonstrated ability to operate effectively in complex organisational environments. They will bring exceptional written communication skills, strong analytical capability and the ability to provide clear, practical and proportionate advice in situations that are often ambiguous, fast-paced and high profile.

The role will suit someone with excellent interpersonal judgement who can build trusted relationships across a wide range of stakeholders and contribute confidently to institutional discussions and initiatives. A strong understanding of the higher education sector, including the policy, regulatory and political context in which universities operate, will be highly regarded.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute directly to the University’s strategic priorities while working at the centre of executive leadership, governance and institutional decision-making.
