The ANU School of Music is seeking an Artist in Residence (Strings/Creative Practice). The position is part-time and contingent funded for 12 months. The successful applicant will report to the Head of School and work closely with both academic, professional and technical staff within the School of Music and the broader University community. 

Position overview

The Artist in Residence will make a significant contribution to the activities of the School and develop scholarly, pedagogical and research activities that integrate into the research specialisations of the School. They will demonstrate internationally benchmarked excellence in string-based creative practice, complimented by a well-developed research trajectory. The capacity to take on a leadership role in the development of the School’s educational activities as appropriate for a music school located within a research-intensive university will be essential. The Artist in Residence will engage in a variety of service activities, including performances, public events, recruitment, and outreach.

The ANU School of Music offers innovative Bachelors, Honours and Doctoral programs in Music. These programs reflect the School’s role within a leading research-intensive university, with a strong focus on both traditional and practice-led research. The School currently offers Undergraduate and Honours programmes with majors in contemporary music production, performance, and composition and is also focussed on graduate supervision in these fields. The School is actively engaged in a number of research and outreach programs that have significant national and international impact. The ANU School of Music is a leader in music making with the First Nations of Australia.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public. Our students, staff and graduates come from more than 60 nations, bringing a diversity of perspective to campus life.
