Position Overview

A postdoctoral position (Academic Level A) is available at the ANU node of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Mathematical Analysis of Cellular Systems (MACSYS, https://macsys.org/). MACSYS brings together mathematical, computational, and biological scientists to develop innovative computational methods that make biology predictive.

The successful candidate will join A/Professor Jean Wen’s research group, the ANU node leader of MACSYS at the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR), to advance multi-omics data integration towards whole cell modeling. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing novel computational methods for large-scale multi-omics data integration.
  • Implementing and optimising computational pipelines to support downstream modeling tasks.
  • Analysing high-throughput sequencing datasets to uncover meaningful biological insights.
  • Contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations within MACSYS.

The Person

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with:

  • A PhD (or near completion, with thesis submission expected within six months) in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or a related field.
  • Expertise in multi-omics data integration and experience analysing large-scale datasets, including single-cell, spatial transcriptomics, as well as other high-throughput sequencing techniques.
  • A proven track record of independent research, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
  • A strong biology background and a passion for uncovering novel biological insights.

The John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) is a foundational research institution within the The ANU College of Science and Medicine,  and discoveries originating from JCSMR research have led to 3 Nobel prizes in Medicine and Physiology. Its mission is to decipher the intricate biological mechanisms crucial to human health, by delving into the vast enigmas of the genome, immune responses, and the brain, and leveraging these insights for the benefit of humanity. The school's three divisions—Genome Science and Cancer, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID), and Neuroscience—reflect these thematic focuses and are complemented by interdisciplinary, cross-functional centers such as the Shine-Dalgarno Centre for RNA Innovation, the Eccles Institute, and the Centre for Computational Biomedical Sciences.
