The Position

National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) is Australia’s leading national provider of high-end computational and data-intensive services, with a strong reputation for its services, expertise and innovation. NCI is an operating unit of the Australian National University and is built on and sustained by a formal collaboration of national research organisations, ANU, CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, other research-intensive universities and organisations nationally.

The Staff Scientist is responsible for providing technical support to NCI’s community of more than 40 stakeholder organisations and 8000 active users.

We are seeking an individual with a technical and/or scientific experience to contribute to operational user support activities for NCI. This role participates in the key activities of the User Support team, including:

  • Providing primary support services to NCI users, including work at least one at per week as primary support contact to triage support requests, update users and stakeholders with active support requests, and solves
  • Liaise with NCI technical and administrative teams to troubleshoot and resolve user technical issues.
  • Operational communications to users and stakeholders.
  • Development and maintenance of policies, procedures and user documentation.
  • Maintenance of the NCI third-party scientific software catalogue
  • Operational and administrative support for resource allocation schemes, such as the National Computational Merit Allocation Scheme (NCMAS).

The ideal applicant will have experience using peak-scale high-performance computing and data services for scientific research, or a demonstrated experience supporting collaboration within a community of scientific researchers.

A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and users is essential. Prior experience using a support ticket system such as Service Now, JIRA Service Manager, Zendesk or similar, and participation in a support team is highly desirable.
