Salary package: $85,434 -$100,378 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full-time, Fixed Term (up to 18 months)
Position overview
The Research School of Chemistry is seeking a motivated and collaborative Research Officer to support the work of Dr Xiaoxiao Zhang and contribute to the School’s dynamic research environment. The Research Officer will play a key role in coordinating and conducting high-quality research activities, including both qualitative and quantitative studies, data analysis, literature reviews, and the preparation of research outputs. This position will also involve monitoring contractual milestones, contributing to financial and compliance reporting, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will support and mentor junior team members, contribute to workshops and professional networks, and help maintain effective working relationships across the School, College, and broader research community.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Chemical Biology or a related discipline, with Honours or an equivalent qualification essential. A higher degree (e.g. Master’s or PhD) will be viewed favourably. They will bring extensive experience in a research or research support role, with proven expertise in molecular cloning and microbial culture handling. Experience in high-throughput in vivo screenings, such as yeast-two-hybrid systems and plant protoplasts, is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will have strong knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and demonstrated ability to manage, analyse, and interpret complex research data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, including experience preparing research papers and project reports. The ideal candidate will also have well-developed interpersonal and mentoring skills, with the ability to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and diverse stakeholders in a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
