Position overview

National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) is Australia’s leading national provider of high-end computational and data-intensive services, with a well-respected reputation for its services, expertise and innovation. NCI is an operating unit of the Australian National University and is built on and sustained by a formal collaboration of national research organisations, ANU, CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, other research-intensive universities and research support organisations nationally. 

The Specialist Computing Systems Programmer is responsible for development and operation of mission-critical software systems that support NCI operations and user services, including NCI’s self-service user and project registration system: MyNCI. This position will play a key role in improving services and security for a community of more than 35 stakeholder organisation and 7000 active researchers.

We are seeking a software developer with expert skills in Python-Django, or with similar web programming frameworks, in a Linux environment. The ideal applicant will also have experience with virtualisation, databases, authentication, integration of applications with multiple services, as well as demonstrated proficiency with modern software engineering tools and practices (e.g. git, Agile processes), and software life cycle management. Experience with Australian Access Federation (AAF) authentication and Atlassian JIRA and Confluence are also highly desirable.
