The Position
The position has both research and teaching roles. The candidate will undertake research under the guidance of the ARC Future Fellow for the project ‘Rebuilding Ukraine: From its War-Torn Past to its War-Torn Present’ resulting in sole and co-authored peer-reviewed academic publications. They will organise expert meetings, research symposia and an international conference, as well as curate the project’s website as a key means of communicating with relevant audiences and stakeholders. The candidate will also act as an associate supervisor for PhD and honours students and co-organise public-facing events and activities to disseminate the project’s findings.

The candidate will convene and teach an undergraduate course on the history of the Soviet Union and contribute lectures and tutorials to an undergraduate course on the history of the Cold War. They will undertake other teaching activities as directed by the Head of School and contribute to curriculum development, delivering lectures and tutorials and undertaking marking to a high standard.

The candidate will contribute to the governance of the School of History through assigned service roles.

The Person
To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD in History in a relevant field and have demonstrated capacity to produce high-quality historical research for publication in leading academic journals and with leading publishers. You will have experience delivering undergraduate history teaching to a high standard, along with professional academic proficiency in English and excellent reading and good speaking proficiency in Russian and Ukrainian.

You will have demonstrated experience working with archival and oral history materials, together with a strong cooperative approach and a willingness to engage in collaborative research. The ability to work effectively under guidance and contribute positively to a collaborative research environment will also be important.

The School/Department
History at ANU is ranked number 1 in Australia on the QS World University Rankings and number 19 in the world. The School of History in CASS teaches a wide variety of undergraduate courses, supervises postgraduate students across a range of fields, and maintains a vibrant culture of research seminars and departmental visitors from Australia and abroad. Its staff have held various ARC fellowships including a Laureate, Future Fellowships, and DECRAs. It currently hosts one DECRA and two Future Fellows.

The College/Division
The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice.
