Change Manager, Environmental Sustainability

Salary package:   $141,637 - $148,403 per annum plus 17% superannuation

Position overview 

An exciting opportunity to lead meaningful change at ANU — driving how the University plans, operates and makes decisions to respond to climate change and build long-term environmental sustainability.  

Lead organisational and behavioural change programs to drive positive environmental sustainability outcomes and embed environmental considerations into planning and decision-making across ANU:  

• Join a dynamic, high-impact team helping deliver the University's strategy while reducing its environmental footprint 
• Shape and lead change management strategies that will influence how a major Australian university operates for years to come 
• Bring your expertise in organisational and behavioural change to a role with real visibility and impact 

We're working to empower the ANU community to act and lead on environmental sustainability — embedding it across planning, decision-making, operations, research and teaching. The Environmental Sustainability Plan 2026-30 addresses three strategic drivers - climate action, nature conservation and the circular economy; through five pathways (governance, operations, Indigenous cultural knowledge, engagement and behaviour change, and integration with research and teaching); and across eight pillars (energy, built environment, transport, water, landscapes & ecosystems, waste & recycling, goods & services and climate risk).    

This role is central to bringing the ANU Environmental Sustainability Plan to life, building capability right across the University. Through co-designed programs, accessible resources, training and engaging communications, our goal is to build a culture where making sustainable choices is second nature to how we work.  

As Change Manager, you'll drive practical, effective change management and communications approaches focused on improving environmental outcomes at both an organisational and individual behaviour level, managing a small team. You'll play a lead role in building a climate-literate, climate-capable culture across ANU, supporting the goal of reducing our environmental footprint (including but not limited to greenhouse gas emissions) and adapting to emerging climate impacts. 

To excel in this role, you'll bring relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or substantial experience in organisational and behavioural change within a large, complex institution. Experience with environmental sustainability-related change and engagement programs will be highly regarded.  We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds who can demonstrate genuine impact in this space. Above all, you're a confident communicator, collaborator and problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to bring people along with you.
