The Position

The Senior Research Technical Officer will work under the broad direction of Prof Mark Humphrey and work closely with ANU Workshop and Functional Materials Research Group within the Research School of Chemistry. The position will provide a high quality special technical services to support academic staff and students in the field of Functional Materials Research at the Research School of Chemistry; conduct applied research with a special focusing on industrial instrumental design and development and operation; maintaining various complex facilities, including developing associate WHS management protocols and user training; and may also contribute to projects across the School, College and the University as appropriate, consistent with the classification of the position. 

 

The Person

This is a position for the candidate/s who can independently provide a strong research technical support in the field of functional materials research. The candidate should have a postgraduate degree in materials science and engineering, and/or electronic technology with subsequent relevant research and work experience in a relevant field. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in instrumental (both lab and industry-scale) design and development; excimer laser passivation procedures; and maintenance/repairing of electron beam, ion beam, high-field magnet cryogenic system, high-electric field in cryogenic vacuum systems and their combinations, including associated WHS management protocols. The candidate should be an experienced specialist in SEM/EDS/EBSD characterisation and has demonstrated experience in independently conducting industry-scale applied research in hydrogen storage. The candidate must have demonstrated experience to train diverse users for using complex scientific facilities.
