Position overview

Within the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, the Centre will play a strategic role in promoting a national collaboration on Indigenous economic empowerment through economic and fiscal policy design and advocacy, translational research, cross sector partnerships, and education and professional development. Working alongside First Nations, governments and industry, the Centre seeks to move beyond problem diagnosis and focus on collaborative actions that further Indigenous economic self-determination and support Indigenous peoples to sustain their unique rights, cultures and connections to the Country.

The College

The ANU College of Law, Governance and Public Policy (CLGP) is a progressive and newly established College that brings together four world-leading academic schools dedicated to shaping the future of law, governance, regulation, policy and population health. As part of Australia’s leading university, the College fosters excellence in research, teaching, and engagement, driving impactful contributions to national and global challenges.

The College provides an intellectually rich community, committed to providing a collaborative and supportive environment for academics, students, and professionals to thrive.

The Position

As the Senior Policy Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in the Centre’s establishment and early impact. Reporting to the Associate Director Policy and Partnerships, you will lead high-quality policy analysis and advice, translate research into practical policy options, and coordinate an engagement program that connects evidence with action. You will prepare briefs, submissions and options papers; support co-design with First Nations partners; and build effective relationships across government, industry, philanthropy and the research sector to advance the Centre’s strategic mission.

The ideal candidate is an action-oriented policy professional with demonstrated experience working alongside Indigenous communities and organisations. You bring strong analytical capability in policy development, an understanding of ethical practice and community-centred approaches, outstanding communication and stakeholder skills coupled with deep cultural integrity and experience working with Indigenous communities. You are resilient, agile and collaborative, able to broker partnerships and deliver timely, practical outputs that lay strong foundations for the Centre’s long-term impact.
