Position overview

The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking a highly capable Senior Advisor to support the Interim Vice-Chancellor and President and work of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. This role is integral to the strategic operations of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and will be directly involved with the work of committees across the University.

As the Senior Advisor, you will be responsible for the provision of strategic coordination and advice to the Interim Vice-Chancellor and President, and the Director Regulatory Affairs and Engagement. You will be responsible for the preparation of major meeting briefs and committee papers. You will collaborate closely with senior university executives, academic and professional staff, government agencies, and other key stakeholders to deliver outcomes that align with the University's priorities.

We are looking for a strategic thinker with the ability to work across requirements in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. Your skillset will include:

  • Proven ability to provide high-level strategic advice in a complex environment, with the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced and ambiguous contexts;
  • Exceptional judgement and problem-solving capability, including the ability to synthesize complex information, analyze data, and identify practical, proportionate responses; 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, build trust, and navigate sensitive issues;
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, concise and high-quality briefings and correspondence for senior executive audiences; and 
  • Detailed knowledge of challenges facing the Australian higher education sector and the strategic context of the ANU, or the ability to quickly and accurately obtain this knowledge, is critical to the role.
