Position Overview

The Research Officer will contribute to the Predicting Lethal Humidity and Associated Excess Mortality project, a collaboration between the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales, and the University of Oxford, funded by the Minderoo Foundation. Focusing on the Emissions and Consequences Quantification subproject, the role involves supporting the research team by assisting in the design and execution of qualitative and quantitative studies, analyzing emissions and climate impact data, preparing research data and publications, managing archival work, developing and maintaining databases and a website to disseminate findings, and collaborating with senior researchers on emissions and climate impact analysis.

The Person

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Officer with a background in climate or environmental research, data science, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a degree or demonstrated experience in these areas and a strong interest in emissions and climate impact research.

Key skills and attributes include:

  • A solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, with experience in data collection, collation, and interpretation viewed favorably.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to draft research papers, liaise with diverse stakeholders, present scientific data, and/or develop web-based data interfaces.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in information systems, including generating complex reports and using the MS Office suite.
  • Experience with high-level scientific software such as Python, MATLAB, or R is desirable.
