The mission of ANU Advancement is to build enduring connections with our community by aligning the passions of generous supporters with the University's exceptional work and impact.

Position overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced prospect research and fundraising professional to lead our Prospect Intelligence team and play a pivotal role in driving the philanthropic success of ANU. This senior position strengthens the University's prospect management capability and enables fundraisers to achieve their goals through strategic insights and actionable intelligence.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Philanthropy Projects, you will lead a team of two Prospect Research Officers and collaborate closely with colleagues across Philanthropy, Gift Services, Donor Relations, and Alumni & Community Engagement to provide actionable insights that identify new prospects, optimise portfolios, and inform relationship management strategies.

Your primary responsibility will be to build and sustain a robust pipeline of prospects that advances the University's long-term fundraising priorities while equipping fundraisers to meet their KPIs. You will design and execute prospect management strategies aligned with the University's philanthropic priorities, lead prospect identification initiatives, and establish pipeline management systems that monitor and grow our prospect pool.

Our ideal candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant qualifications with significant work experience in philanthropic prospect research, fundraising, investigation, or related fields such as sales or business development. You will possess a highly developed understanding of prospect management and fundraising cycles, including cultivation, stewardship, and conversion strategies.

You will demonstrate strong research methodologies with experience in strategic analysis and planning, interpreting complex financial, biographical, and organisational data, and synthesising findings into strategic insights and actionable recommendations. Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, present complex information clearly, and provide strategic consultation to fundraisers and senior management.

You will have proven team leadership and management experience, with the ability to coach technical staff, support collaboration with diverse teams, and deliver excellent customer service with initiative and curiosity. You will possess proven coordination and organisational skills to manage multiple complex priorities and maintain high quality standards. Critically, you will demonstrate commitment to ethical practices and confidentiality, with the ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion and professional judgement.
