The School of Culture, History and Language is the focus of research and teaching in Asian and Pacific humanities, social sciences and languages and seeks to build excellence in understanding and capability in engaging with the Asia and Pacific region. The key disciplines that are represented in the School are anthropology, archaeology, cultural studies, gender studies, history, linguistics, and languages, all contributing to the foundational knowledge of Asia and the Pacific.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Postgraduate Fellow to contribute to the School’s Papua New Guinea archaeological programs. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of lectures, tutorials and fieldwork schools You will supervise and assess students, supervise advanced research students, work collaboratively with academic and research support staff and integrate research into teaching. The Postgraduate Fellow will report to Dr Ben Shaw and work on the Future Fellowship project Multicultural frontiers and human histories on the fringe of tropical Sahul. In this role you will be involved in the identification of human skeletal remains.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have a doctorial qualification (PhD) or be in the process of completing it in archaeological studies with experience in field research in remote locations. You will have demonstrated ability in teaching at all academic levels. To excel in this role, you will have a track record conducting fieldwork in Papua New Guinea, in highland, coastal and island contexts. An active publication track record in areas related to your research area is highly desirable.
