The Position

The ANU School of Medicine and Psychology is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to an ARC Indigenous Discovery Project led by Dr Olivia Evans. This project investigates attitudes towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and identifies pathways to non-Indigenous allyship. The research aims to improve understanding of how prejudice can be reduced and how support for Indigenous rights and initiatives can be strengthened.

Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and who bring expertise and lived experience that will contribute to the School’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and delivery of the research, contribute to scholarly publications and presentations, and support broader engagement activities associated with the project. There may also be opportunities to contribute to teaching, student supervision, and service within the School, depending on the candidate’s interests and experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting independent and collaborative research aligned with the project.
  • Contributing to academic publications and conference presentations.
  • Supporting ethics, reporting, and coordination tasks related to the project.
  • Contributing to the collegial and inclusive research culture of the School.
  • Assisting in mentoring students and supporting research-related teaching where appropriate.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in psychology, sociology, political science, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in research related to social attitudes, allyship, or Indigenous rights.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities is highly desirable.
