Position overview

Academic promotion is the most consequential talent recognition mechanism at ANU. It formally recognises and advances academic excellence and reflects the achievements that define an ANU academic career.

The Manager, Academic Talent and Succession leads the team responsible for delivering this process with rigour, consistency, and care for every candidate. The role provides leadership and oversight of a small specialist team and contributes to the effective operation of the University's academic promotion framework, including support for promotion committees and related governance processes as required.

Beyond the annual academic promotion cycle, this role leads the ongoing enhancement of academic promotion at the ANU, including strengthening governance frameworks, embedding digital capability into the process, building succession resilience within the team, and positioning academic promotion as a priority in the University’s talent development process.

The role operates in a complex, high-stakes environment, working directly with the Provost, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Deans, and senior academic leaders. It demands sound judgement, discretion, and the confidence to advise and influence at that level.
