About Us
The ANU by 2025 Strategic Plan calls for the University to serve society through transformational research and education. As one of the great universities of the world, ANU is driven by a culture of excellence in everything we do. Our lived experience is increasingly one of large-scale systems of people, whose actions and interactions are influenced by our digital, physical and biological environment. The ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics (CECC) hosts three of the key disciplines necessary to help us design, build, regulate and secure the future. CECC brings together expertise in social, technical, computational, ecological and scientific systems to build a new approach to systems design and build new national capabilities in data-driven policy and business development.

The College is comprised of three schools: the School of Computing, School of Cybernetics, and School of Engineering, supported by the Professional Services Group.

The IT Teaching Support Officer is part of the Computing Facilities Team within the School of Computing focussed on the development and running of the various online and laboratory-based teaching systems used to support the teaching activities of the School. The IT Teaching Support Officer also provides some support for specialised IT Teaching systems used within the other two schools of the College.

About the role
The School of Computing utilises a variety of leading software and hardware platforms to aid in the delivery of the teaching activities, with a primary focus on Linux and other Open Source Software-based systems. The School operates a number of Linux-based computing laboratories with their supporting infrastructure and various on-line systems, in particular the GtiLab version control system.

The IT Teaching Support Officer will maintain the operation of the various teaching systems, as well as provide professional recommendations to the Computing Facilities Manager and the various academics and other educators within the School of Computing as to future directions in teaching requirements. There will also be some software development required in support of these activities, mainly involving shell scripting and use of domain-specific configuration languages for some of the systems, such as LDIF, HTML, CSS etc.

About You
We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Hands-on experience in Linux/Posix system administration and familiarity with the Git version control software and software development. • A proven track record in proactively resolving problems, troubleshooting, and initiating service improvements.
