Position Overview

University House offers commercial hotel and ANU graduate student accommodation, and 15 diverse events spaces and hospitality venues. University House is reopening in mid-2026, after 6.5 years closure due to the 2020 Canberra hailstorm, and a complete refurbishment to restore and upgrade its rooms and facilities. The reopening, in conjunction with the University's 80th anniversary, offers an exciting opportunity to re-establish and grow the reputation and business of University House, and its contributions to the University.

We are seeking a professional, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable Events and Sales executive to lead a team and work in a busy and dynamic environment. You will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, high attention to detail and strong understanding and application of HACCP and Workplace Health and Safety. This person will be responsible for the planning and management of all event sales across the House, and provides high level, comprehensive support on a diverse range of marketing, outreach, and communications activities to achieve the House’s strategic and operational goals.

As the Department Head you will be reporting to the Operations Manager. You will develop networks across the University community and manage relationships with internal and external clients, whilst working in close collaboration with the University House leadership team. Your knowledge of current industry trends in events and sales, and food and beverage services will allow you to develop your department into a renowned high-quality facility capable to meet any challenge head on.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will also reflect a high level of personal presentation, professionalism, and leadership in all circumstances to ensure the best possible outcome for the House and ANU.
Your day-to-day duties include working strategically with the management team, monitoring budgets with regards to sales, expenses and stock control, rostering, training, and mentoring of staff.  The development and implementation of standard operating procedures across the department will be a critical component to deliver ongoing high quality guest experiences.  Key stakeholder engagement includes other Department Heads and ANU clients across campus.

Benefits include:

  • Professional and collaborative work environment
  • Mentoring and ongoing career development
  • Excellent remuneration and benefits
