Position overview

The Senior Network Administrator plays a key role in supporting and enhancing the University’s digital infrastructure. Working within the Network Operations team in Information Technology Services (ITS), this position is responsible for the day-to-day and emergency operation of Australian National University’s fixed and wireless network services across campus and satellite sites. The role involves technical consultation, design validation, and hands-on implementation and maintenance of secure, scalable network solutions.

This is a highly collaborative role requiring engagement with internal stakeholders across ITS and the University, as well as external vendors. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the Australian National University’s Digital Plan by applying expert knowledge in network technologies, automation practices, and security frameworks to ensure a seamless and resilient digital experience for students and staff.

 Key Duties:    

  •  Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of ANU’s fixed and wireless network infrastructure, ensuring alignment with security frameworks such as the ISM and PSPF.
  • Manage core network technologies including authentication systems, load balancers, wireless infrastructure, and monitoring tools, while providing expert technical advice and troubleshooting support.
  • Champion automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to streamline network deployment and maintenance across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to deliver secure, scalable, and responsive network services that meet University needs.

About You  
We welcome applications from individuals who possess the following attributes:   

  • Hold relevant qualifications in Information Technology, Computing, Network Engineering or a related field, or bring extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in delivering network services within a complex organisation. Cisco and/or Arista certifications are highly regarded.
  • Have strong technical expertise in designing, implementing and supporting enterprise network and wireless systems, with hands-on experience in technologies such as Cisco, Arista, F5, Aruba, Palo Alto, and Infoblox.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and analytical skills, with a proven ability to develop resilient network infrastructure and provide expert technical advice in a multi-platform environment.
  • Thrive in agile team settings, managing competing priorities effectively while maintaining a strong customer focus and collaborative approach with diverse stakeholders.
