This position is continuing (contingent funded). The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of 17/03/2029
The Position
The position is in support of an Australian Research Council Discovery Programme grant that seeks to understand the optical and magnetic properties of rare earth quantum materials from first principles. The project will involve multiconfigurational computational quantum chemistry to model how different rare earth ions in different materials can be used, and optimised, for a variety of quantum information and communication purposes.
The Person
The successful applicant will undertake independent research in the area of computational chemistry with a view to publishing original and innovative results in refereed journals, present research at seminars and conferences, and collaborate with other researchers. The successful applicant will hold a relevant PhD and have experience in previous postdoctoral roles, with a track record of innovative research in the field of rare earth electronic structure. Crucially, the successful applicant will have experience in multiconfigurational quantum chemistry methods and programming in Python, and be able to demonstrate evidence of development of software tools for modelling spin dynamics of magnetic molecules.
The School/Department
The Research School of Chemistry is a leading centre of chemistry research in Australia. Researchers have a tradition of excellence in addressing the world’s most pressing chemistry issues, including computational chemistry.
