Position Overview

The Deputy Director, Engagement provides strategic leadership and enterprise-level coordination across internal communications, media, multimedia, public relations and government relations. The role is responsible for developing an institutional communications and engagement strategy and an integrated communications ecosystem and endorsing all communications for executive approval.

The role will provide leadership, capability uplift, and operational oversight leading the development and implementation of the Universities integrated communications strategy and ecosystem, govern messaging protocols, frameworks, and briefing systems and will strengthen issues management, crisis response, and parliamentary engagement. The role will provide high-level strategic operational advice to the wider Regulatory Affairs and Engagement team and the broader ANU.

The ideal candidate will be a senior executive with extensive experience in strategy, communication and regulatory engagement within complex environments.  They will bring a strong track record of building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leading high-performing teams, and providing strategic advice at the highest levels.
