This position is continuing (contingent funded). The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of 30 September 2027.
The Research Fellow will primarily contribute to a German Lost Art Foundation-funded project entitled: ‘London commercial outlets and the provision of Oceanic Cultural Objects and Ancestral Remains to German Museums 1880-1955: advancing knowledge of this extensive commercial network and creating a web resource to assist provenance research and connections between museums and source communities.’ They are also expected, when time allows, to contribute to teaching efforts, particularly at postgraduate, professional training and higher degree by research (HDR) levels, and carry out activities to develop their scholarly, research and/or professional track record.
The Person
This position will attract applicants who are looking to build an innovative portfolio of work that includes applied and scholarly repatriation research, community engagement and contributions to the Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies’ vibrant interdisciplinary education programming.
Early career scholars working on the following topics are particularly welcome to apply: repatriation, provenance research, Indigenous knowledge, history of museums, economic history, history of anthropology, German collecting in Oceania.
The Centre
The Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies (CHMS) is a multidisciplinary community of scholars within the College of Arts and Social Sciences who undertake a dynamic research and teaching program. CHMS is also the home of Return Reconcile Renew: an international centre for repatriation teaching, practice and research (RRRC), led by Professor Cressida Fforde. The RRRC supports an international network of repatriation workers and researchers and for the past 12 years, this network has undertaken a number of major projects, constructed a digital archive of repatriation information with Indigenous governance, supports repatriation work, particular by undertaking provenance research, and teachings masters and professional development courses. The German Lost Art Foundation Grant is a RRRC project.
The College
The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of six Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences.
