Position Overview

The position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project, based in the School of Sociology within the Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS). We are seeking a highly capable and self-motivated Research Fellow to work on the Experimenting with Estrogen project, funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant. This project aims to investigate how scientists, clinicians and lay people are experimenting with the hormone estrogen.

The Research Fellow will design an independent project that will map lay estrogen knowledge and ‘self-health’ practices through content analysis of websites, apps, social media and educational materials and consider how they engage and challenge scientific and medical accounts of hormonal action, sex and gender, health and wellbeing. This research will be in close conversation with a related interview-based project lead by Prof Mary Lou Rasmussen. Our core aim is to produce detailed and accurate knowledge about lay estrogen-related education and health practices.

The fellow will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate course teaching in the School of Sociology and provide supervision to undergraduate research assistants, Honours and Higher Degree by Research students as required.

The Person
We are seeking an early career researcher to undertake independent research. The research fellow is expected to work with the research team (Professors Celia Roberts, Mary Lou Rasmussen and Helen Keane – all in the School of Sociology at ANU) and will be directly supervised by Professor Rasmussen. The research fellow will develop an independent research program, engage in collaborative research projects, contribute to undergraduate teaching within the School of Sociology, and support the promotion of project activities, including through website development and social media outreach.
