The Australian National University is a world-leading university in Australia’s capital, with excellence embedded in its approach to research and education, dedicated to cultivating an outstanding and diverse student community that reflects its national mission. We are seeking an accomplished and forward‑looking leader as Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Future Students). This role is central to shaping the University’s global engagement, student recruitment strategy, and long-term educational partnerships.

As a key member of the Chancelry Executive, the University Leadership Group, and the Portfolio Leadership Team, the Pro Vice-Chancellor contributes to strategic decision making at the highest levels and plays a pivotal role in defining the University’s international outlook and future student cohort.

Joining ANU as Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Future Students) is a rare opportunity to lead the international and domestic recruitment strategy for Australia’s national university, strengthen equity and access, and expand transformative global learning experiences for students. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), the Pro Vice-Chancellor drives the University’s international strategy, guides the implementation of national policy, and forges partnerships that open new pathways for collaboration and mobility.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor leads the managed growth of student cohort, driving a strategic agenda that delivers recruitment and equity goals, supporting participation in global mobility programs, and nurturing high‑value educational partnerships. Acting on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), this role shapes the development of diverse, high‑achieving student cohorts and ensures the effective integration of international activities across the University.

This role calls for an inspiring, innovative and strategic senior leader with a deep understanding of the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing higher education. The successful candidate will be able to analyse developments across the Australian and global higher education landscape and translate insights into effective policy and outcomes. They will demonstrate the ability to navigate a complex university environment, build strong relationships across academic and professional communities, and work collaboratively with national and international partners to advance a cohesive global strategy.

The University is seeking a dynamic, experienced senior leader with a strong record of achievement in a university setting and the strategic capability to advance the University’s international agenda and shape its future student cohorts. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of global higher education, strong financial and data‑informed decision‑making, and the ability to translate sector developments into effective policy and practice. They will demonstrate the leadership needed to drive recruitment and equity goals for domestic and international students, expand participation in global mobility programs, and nurture strategic educational partnerships. The role requires collaborative leadership across academic, professional, and regulatory teams, the ability to build influential external and government relationships, and the interpersonal capability to lead high‑performing staff and strengthen the University’s global reach and standing.

For a senior leader passionate about education, partnerships, and student opportunity, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on one of the world’s leading universities.

Note: Information included throughout reflects the proposed future‑state structure as part of an active implementation process.
