This position is continuing (contingent funded). The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of 29 June 2028.

 

The Position

The Postdoctoral Researcher (Level A) or Research Fellow (Level B) will undertake independent research in the area of nuclear reactions, particularly heavy-ion fusion and few- and multi-nucleon transfer, including assisting in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. They will publish original and innovative results in refereed journals, present research at national and international conferences, and collaborate with other researchers at a national and international level. They will collaborate with senior staff to actively seek and secure external funding, and prepare and submit research proposals to external funding bodies as appropriate, and contribute to teaching activities of the Research School of Physics.

 

The Person

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD (or be near completion) in physics or a related field, with demonstrated research expertise in experimental nuclear physics. They will have a strong record of publications, ideally in nuclear reactions research, and experience in laboratory experimentation and multiparameter data analysis. The candidate will be capable of developing innovative research ideas, contributing to collaborative projects, and supporting funding applications.

The Research School of Physics is a leading centre of physics research and education in Australia. Researchers have a tradition of excellence in addressing the world’s most pressing physics issues, including in Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Applications.  The Department operates the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility, the premier laboratory in Australia for accelerator-based research in nuclear physics.

 

The College/Division

The ANU College of Science and Medicine encompasses research across Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Physics, Medicine and Psychology, and Medical Research. It is also home to various cross-disciplinary and specialist institutes and centres. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science and Medicine conduct research and deliver research-led education programs spanning the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and world-class facilities.
