Classification: Senior Manager 2
Salary package: $151,477 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full time, Fixed Term (up to 18 months)
NCI is Australia’s leading national provider of high-end computational and data-intensive services. As one of two national-level supercomputing facilities, NCI has a well-respected reputation for its services, expertise and innovation.
With funding from the Commonwealth Department of Education’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS), NCI is on track to replace its current supercomputer, Gadi, with a new machine by early 2027. We seek a highly experienced procurement professional to lead the procurement process, including preparation of tender documentation, supporting the evaluation process and contract negotiation, and supporting executive decision-making based on sound transparent procurement principles.
The Strategic Procurement Manager will report to the Associate Director Procurement and Contracts, within the University’s Procurement and Contracts Office (UPCO) where they will be supported and trained on ANU procurement policies and procedures. With key responsibility for NCI’s supercomputer replacement procurement plan, they will have a dotted reporting line to the NCI Director and work closely with NCI leaders (particularly Associate Directors in the areas of High-Performance Computing and Storage Services and Senior Operations Manager) and staff through the duration of the project.
The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and have an enabling mindset, to steer NCI towards executing its procurement strategy while meeting University (and external, as applicable) compliance requirements. Ideally, they will have experience with large-scale (>$50M) procurements of IT equipment, knowledge of and/or understanding of high-performance computing and storage technologies will be a key advantage. Highly developed communication skills that allow effective and professional working relationships with internal staff, NCI research stakeholders (who are the users of the technology) and vendors, are essential.
