The Position
The Senior Technical Officer will support (i) management of our seismic fieldwork program, and (ii) the seismic instrumentation pool and associated research facilities at ANU. Our fleet of seismic instrumentation encompasses a wide range of equipment and is available to the community through ANSIR, the Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource. By managing new and ongoing projects to deploy this seismic instrumentation across the Australian continent and surrounding regions, this position will underpin high-level research activity in seismology. Working closely with academic researchers, the Senior Technical Officer will have the opportunity to plan and coordinate such seismic field experiments, ensuring appropriate data management and quality control measures are implemented. As part of the Geophysical Operations team the Senior Technical Officer will work alongside other researchers and technical staff at RSES to maintain and develop our research capabilities in seismology, and may include opportunities to supervise junior technical staff members in the area.
The Senior Technical Officer will be a member of Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences, and ranked 11th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). The Person
To excel in this role you will hold a degree (or equivalent experience) in a discipline related to geophysics and be able to support and participate in field-based research. The ideal candidate would have experience in some of the following areas: seismological or geophysical instrumentation, fieldwork logistics and planning, and/or seismic data acquisition and data management.
Your ability to lead by example, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will enable you to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels within RSES in line with the RSES Culture Statement.
