Salary package: $134,812 - $141,252 per annum plus 17% superannuation

Position overview 

As a senior leader in the Analytics Translation & Insights team, you will apply cutting-edge statistical modelling and analytics methodologies, as well as AI techniques, to complex datasets. Your work will directly support the University’s strategic goals and improve analysis at the heart of the University’s student experience, and core activities.

You will also play a key role in mentoring junior analysts, embedding ethical data practices, and contributing to the continuous evolution of Australian National University’s data science capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • . Lead the statistical design and analysis of analytical work ensuring statistically valid methodologies and approaches are applied 
  • Conduct rigorous experimentation and hypothesis testing to generate actionable insights including developing research methodologies/approaches to answer business questions that are pedagogically relevant to different research questions and data types 
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, privacy, and ethical use across all analytics outputs.
  • Mentor and certify the work of junior data scientists and analysts.
  • Stay at the forefront of developments in Generative AI and data science, identifying opportunities for innovation including identifying and leading the build of high-impact Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning opportunities 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex data into strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data science tools, practices, and infrastructure.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Postgraduate qualifications (or progress towards) in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field (PhD or Masters by Research highly desirable) in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, actuarial studies or related area.
  • Extensive experience in statistical analysis and modelling, data science methodologies, and real-world application of analytics.
  • Proficiency in tools such as SPSS, R, Python (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn), and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with developing and deploying Generative AI models and modern data platforms will be highly regarded.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills in a diverse environment.
  • High-level analytical, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a track record of delivering strategic outcomes.
