About Us
The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching, and contributions to public debate, aiming to set the international standard for regional scholarship. The Crawford School of Public Policy, one of four schools within the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, is among the world’s leading public policy institutions.
The Water Justice Hub, established on 14 October 2019, is an initiative of the UNESCO Chair in Water Economics and Transboundary Water Governance at the Australian National University. The Hub’s mission is to address water injustice and promote both 'voice' and truth-telling in water-related issues. While primarily focused on Australia—particularly justice for First Peoples—the Hub also engages with global challenges in achieving ‘water for all,’ as aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join a dynamic research team at the Water Justice Hub supported by philanthropic funding. The successful applicant will work on an Indigenous-led, community-driven project addressing concerns regarding drinking water quality. Reporting to Professor Quentin Grafton, the Research Fellow will collaborate with School, College, and University colleagues to achieve strategic outcomes in education and research. This role requires either potential or demonstrated excellence in published research and teaching, and especially data collection and analysis, as well as the potential to attract external research funding.
The Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to the teaching efforts of the Crawford School of Public Policy, particularly at the Master’s level (Water Justice Course), and work with Professor Grafton on a series of research reports. The primary role will focus on data collection in Australia related to drinking water quality in rural and remote communities, with subsequent data analyses and reporting.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will hold a PhD in agricultural economics (or equivalent), with a record of independent research and relevant work experience in data collection and analysis. You must possess extensive knowledge, understanding, and experience in working with publicly reported data on drinking water quality in Australia, integrating this expertise with Australian socio-economic data for analysis. To excel in this role, a thorough understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and related water quality regulations is essential. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate potential for curriculum and program development, high-quality teaching and executive education, community engagement, and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
