The Position
We are seeking a candidate to undertake collaborative research in the area of palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction based on Australian lacustrine environments. This will involve analysing a range of complementary data sets and developing chronological models to construct sediment-based palaeoenvironmental histories for several Australian lakes. The position includes publishing original and innovative results in refereed journals, presenting research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborating with other researchers at both national and international levels.

This role will also involve mentoring students and will require engagement in collegial and productive collaborations with local, national, and international colleagues.

The Person
The successful applicant must hold a PhD in Earth Science or a related field, with a demonstrated track record of independent research in reconstructing palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironmental change from lacustrine environments. This should be evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations, a record of developing and maintaining collaborations, and other indicators such as awards or invitations to present at conferences.

The successful applicant will be expected to work collegially as part of a team, leading by example to develop and maintain effective, productive, and positive workplace relationships with School and College staff, students, and honorary appointees, as well as with industry stakeholders.

The School
The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) is built on the expert application of the enabling sciences—mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology—to address major scientific questions and challenges. RSES adopts a broad, integrative approach to explore topics ranging from the Earth’s formation and evolutionary history to predicting the future state of our oceans and climate. As a member of the Climate and Ocean Geoscience Research Area, the successful applicant will collaborate with scientists who specialise in environmental reconstruction across timescales ranging from thousands to millions of years, encompassing both marine and terrestrial environments.

The College

It is also home to various cross-disciplinary and specialist institutes and centres.
