The Area
The ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) operates Australia’s national optical observatory and has access to the world’s largest optical telescopes.
Our staff and students have made major contributions to astronomy, mapping the structure and formation of the Milky Way, discovering planets orbiting other stars, measuring dark matter both within our Galaxy and in the wider Universe, and discovering the accelerating expansion of the Universe. Our astronomers include winners of the Prime Minister’s Prize for Science and the Nobel Prize.
Our main campus is at Mount Stromlo Observatory where we host the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre, a national facility established to support the development of the next generation of instruments for astronomy and space science.
The Position
The Postdoctoral / Research Fellow will be based in the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, ANU, and will undertake work on an ARC Discovery Project in observational cosmology, using 4MOST Hemisphere Survey observations to measure galaxy distances and velocities, map the largest and most massive local structures, measure the bulk motions in the Universe, and test the predicted approach to homogeneity and the Cosmological Principle.
The Person
We are looking for an early career researcher with a PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment) in astronomy or astrophysics, with a strong track record of research in observational cosmology or a related field and demonstrated ability to communicate and interactive effectively with a variety of staff and students in a cross disciplinary academic environment.
