The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work within the research group of Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths and Dr Craig Anderson and focus on measuring the magnitude and structure magnetic fields in the nearby Universe using Faraday Rotation.  The work will revolve around the ASKAP Polarisation Survey of the Universe’s Magnetism, POSSUM.  This position will focus on using POSSUM Rotation Measures to probe the magnetoionic medium in the Magellanic Clouds, the circumgalactic medium of galaxies and/or nearby galaxy groups.  This will also include some technical work to enable the delivery of the POSSUM survey data products. The Postdoctoral Fellow is also expected to contribute to other areas of academic activity including education and service (including outreach). The Postdoctoral Fellow may also be required to supervise or mentor less senior staff, and undertake leadership roles as applicable. The staff member will contribute cooperatively to the overall intellectual life of the School, College and University.   

The Person

An outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of Faraday rotation and/or extragalactic magnetism. The candidate will have (or shortly obtain) a PhD in astronomy or a related area, with a strong track record of research in the field of Radio Polarimetry and/or Faraday Rotation as evidenced by cited publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, a record of developing and maintaining collaborations and by other measures such as awards, and invitations to present at prominent conferences etc.  The candidate will have a track record of articulating and prosecuting innovative research in the field of astronomy and demonstrated ability to lead and work as part of a team.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will use ASKAP POSSUM data with a view to publishing original and innovative results in international refereed journals, present research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborate with other researchers at a national and/or international level.
