The Position

The Manager Academic Skills is a senior leadership role within the University Library, responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for Academic Skills services across the University.

Leading a team of learning development professionals, the role drives initiatives that enhance students' academic literacies, learning capabilities and success. Working closely with academic and professional leaders, the Manager develops strategic partnerships, leads service innovation and ensures Academic Skills programs align with the University's priorities for learning, teaching and student success.

The Manager provides visible leadership and advocacy for Academic Skills across the University, championing the team's contribution to learning and teaching excellence and ensuring its expertise is recognised and embedded across the institution.

The Person

You are an experienced and collaborative leader with a strong commitment to student learning and success within higher education. You bring demonstrated experience leading teams, programs or services, building productive stakeholder relationships and delivering strategic initiatives in complex environments.

You will possess:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or significant experience in academic skills, learning development, higher education or a related field.
  • Strong people leadership skills and experience fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and influencing skills.
  • Well-developed analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The ability to lead change, balance competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • The confidence to advocate for services and influence decision-making across the University.

The Team

Academic Skills is a university-wide service within the University Library that supports the development of students' academic literacies, learning strategies and academic communication skills. Through consultations, workshops, resources and partnerships with academic areas, the team contributes to student success, retention and educational excellence across all stages of the student journey.
