Position overview
ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the School of Medicine and Psychology, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.

The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) works to advance human health and wellbeing, enhancing the lives of individuals and strengthening communities, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples, in the ACT, NSW and beyond. By integrating the disciplines of medicine and psychology we aim to unlock the secrets of health and wellbeing, develop impactful therapies, solve national and international health problems, and lead impactful social change. To do this we conduct collaborative, courageous, transformational and translational research, integrating perspectives, knowledge and techniques from multiple disciplines. We develop excellent, adaptable, resilient and innovative clinicians, academics and health care leaders of the future who work in partnership with their patients and colleagues to provide optimal care for individuals while strengthening the stem and society they work in. We partner with discovery-focussed and population researchers, healthcare providers, government, commercial and not for profit organisations and communities.

SMP undertakes substantive academic activities across 3 clinical schools: our Canberra, Rural and Sydney Clinical Schools. The Sydney Clinical School (SCS) based at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) provides placement opportunities for a growing number of our medical students and has an emerging clinical research profile. Having been successfully established and now thriving, we are looking for a clinical academic leader to carry the school into its next phase of development.

Position
The Head, Sydney Clinical School is a key leadership position in the School of Medicine and Psychology. The position plays a critical role in the development and achievement of the School’s strategic goals within The SAN and Adventist Health including the provision of excellent medical education and fostering an environment where research and scholarship can flourish. The Head is accountable to the Director, School of Medicine and Psychology and is a member of the School Executive. The position fosters strong working relationships and the partnership between ANU and The SAN and any other Sydney based clinical partners of the school, especially in clinical education and research, for advancing medical education within these partner organisations, and for ensuring there is a vibrant clinical school contributing to education of ANU students at all levels.

Person
The ideal candidate for the position must demonstrate strong leadership skills, with experience in mentoring colleagues and shaping organisational goals. Additionally, they should excel in teaching, curriculum development, and research, with a proven track record of attracting funding and publishing in reputable journals. The candidate should have on-site leadership capabilities and managerial experience in academic or clinical settings.
