Position overview

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences is seeking a committed, strategic, and versatile Level B or Level C academic to lead the philanthropically funded Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry. The position of Convenor is expected to lead and facilitate the activities of the Freilich Project, to advance the studies and practices related to bigotry and social justice scholarship, and to raise the profile of this research across the university and beyond. 

The successful candidate will be a strong researcher (or show clear potential to develop excellence in their field of research) with experience in leading significant public engagement, and possess well-developed administrative skills. They will provide leadership for the Freilich Project, participate and build upon the existing program of research, public engagement and communications activities, participate in teaching and supervision, and develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Freilich Advisory Board. A significant, and/or developing academic research profile that would facilitate publication allied to this project would also be welcome. Equivalent high-level experience delivering significant public engagement projects may also be considered.  Experience in working collaboratively with university and external stakeholders to deliver such outputs Is also highly desirable. The position is available for 3 years initially, at 0.5FTE (equivalent to 2.5 days per week). For internal ANU candidates, total full-time workload can be negotiated with the academic’s local area. 

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is the largest single College of six Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 46 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and two ARC Laureates.
