About the School

The School of Computing (SOCO) has a strong foundation in computing and information sciences at ANU. We are a transformative centre for research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer systems and software, and theoretical foundations of computing. We span traditional and modern thinking, connecting decades of computer science methodologies with modern data and computational science. Our mission is motivated by the need to design, drive and sustain strategic activities via five broad focus areas: Computing Foundations, Computational Science, Intelligent Systems, Data Science and Analytics, and the Software Innovation Institute. Be part of an innovative and forward-looking intellectual agenda, built on a diverse, inclusive culture.

About the opportunity

As a casual sessional academic (tutor), you will be involved in delivering SOCO courses with the support, guidance, and direction of the Course Convenor and School staff. You will work both independently and as part of a team to inspire active, evidence-based learning in our courses, motivate students to achieve their best, and help them meet the stated learning outcomes.

You will hold qualifications and/or experience appropriate to the relevant discipline area. If you have the ability to engage, educate, and enjoy working collaboratively, we would like to hear from you. Tutoring qualifications are highly regarded.

If you have not already completed specific tutor training offered by the College or other units at ANU, you may have the opportunity to participate in this professional development. The School will notify you if this opportunity becomes available.

ANU casual sessional academic positions are non-ladder positions, meaning occupants are ineligible to participate in the academic promotions process.

Review of applications will begin after the closing date and will continue until all positions have been filled. Applications may be used to fill casual sessional academic roles over the course of the Semester. Preparation for teaching in Semester 1 commences in O-week, from 16th February 2026. Some courses may start a little earlier and completion of training may be needed in the week of 9th February 2026

Applications which do not provide a statement of suitability or are received late may be excluded from consideration. Please note that course availability is subject to change depending on enrolment numbers.

It is the intention of the School of Computing to collect feedback on individual CSA performance from all course convenors in 2026. This feedback will be made available to other course convenors in subsequent semesters, should individuals apply for other CSA roles. Additional information on this will be provided to successful appointees.
