Position overview

The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking a strategic and practical Analytics Design Lead to shape the future of data-driven decision-making across the University. This senior leadership role will guide the design and implementation of analytics solutions that deliver actionable insights and measurable impact to improve student experience and University activities

As the Analytics Design Lead, you will lead a small team responsible for collecting, analysing, and interpreting data to inform business strategies and performance. You will champion contemporary analytics approaches, promote and embed data governance and quality, and drive innovation through advanced analytics and predictive modelling.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and delivery of analytics solutions aligned with strategic objectives and key reporting artefacts.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the University to translate business needs into actionable insights by collecting business requirements using a variety of methods, such as interviews, document analysis, workshops, and workflow analysis.
  • Assist in the guiding the development and execution of the University’s analytics strategy aligned with business and customer objectives with a view to transforming the University’s analytics environments by embedding contemporary data and analytics approaches.
  • Establish standards, templates, and guidelines for analytics development.
  • Mentor and develop a skilled analytics team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Embed data governance, privacy, and quality into analytics workflows.
  • Champion the use of advanced analytics, machine learning, and data storytelling.
  • Guide the transformation of the University’s analytics environment through strategic planning and continuous improvement.

About you:

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

  • Postgraduate qualifications (or progress towards) in statistics, data science, computer science, or a related field, with extensive experience in analytics leadership, or an equivalent combination of training and relevant.
  • Proven success in transforming analytics capabilities and delivering strategic outcomes and significant experience in data/analytics design and leadership.
  • Strong technical expertise in modern analytics platforms and tools (e.g. SQL, Cognos, Python, DataBricks, Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Sophisticated analytical and judgement skills combined with outstanding communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and mentoring skills.
