Position overview
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides corporate IT services to ANU staff, students and visitors in support of achieving excellence in research, teaching and public policy. These services include network, communications, computing platforms, data storage, desktop and mobile access, enterprise systems, student learning environments, and IT security. The work of ITS is coordinated with services provided within and by University Colleges and other Service Divisions to form a cohesive, University-wide information services infrastructure.

The Agile Coach is a senior Agile expert in the ITS Division. Agile Coaches work as part of the Agile Coaching Chapter in the Lean Agile Centre of Excellence (LACE) in ITS to support and embed modern ways of working in line with the new ITS operating model, including uplifting maturity in Lean, Agile and DevOps practices. 

The Agile Coach will support both cross-functional delivery and operational teams across ITS Streams to uplift their delivery capability, by fostering an Agile mindset and championing relevant principles and values in their approaches and practices. Focus areas may include continual improvement, reduction in technical debt, and customer-centricity. 

The Agile Coach will provide coaching support to ITS Streams across three key tracks including delivery enablement, team growth, and individual growth. They will assist in providing appropriate guidance, standards, and direction to teams and their members, in collaboration with the Delivery and DevOps Chapters, who also reside within the LACE. Agile Coaches take an evidence-based approach to understanding and uplifting health and maturity across teams and will co-create and enact action plans with both team members and ITS Leadership team to help improve this maturity. 

Key Duties

  • Prepare and run regular health radars with ITS Streams and teams, using data and insights to identify areas of low maturity and create coaching plans to grow capability, continually improve, and experiment with new approaches
  • Create and deliver relevant training and documentation on Agile concepts, frameworks, techniques and toolsets, to address identified gaps or build on foundational knowledge to help teams level up 
  • Plan and facilitate ITS Portfolio and Stream-level events that align with the ITS operating model, including scaled Horizon Planning and Review activities, Scrum of Scrum sessions, Retrospectives and Showcases (in partnership with other leadership roles) 
  • Assist in creating and maintaining key delivery artifacts in line with the Lean Portfolio Management framework, including Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), Strategic and Horizon Plans, and Dashboards (in partnership with other leadership roles)
  • Advise and assist on configuration and maintenance of the delivery management platform to enable teams to plan, track and deliver initiatives
  • Contribute towards a healthy organisational culture within ITS, which includes championing our ITS Values and promoting innovation, transparency and accountability at all levels

About You
We welcome applications from individuals who possess the following attributes: 

  • Significant experience in supporting ITS teams, particularly enabling or operational teams, to achieve high quality outcomes and excellence in service delivery
  • Extensive knowledge and application of relevant Lean and Agile frameworks and approaches at both team and scaled program/portfolio level
  • Familiarity with relevant toolsets (e.g. Atlassian - Jira and Confluence) and metrics to support Agile work practices
  • Proven ability to form excellent working relationships with business stakeholders and sponsors as well as with key ITS staff such as Value/Stream Group Leads and Chapter Leads to partner effectively to help drive change.
