Position overview 

Terrific opportunity to join the high-performing Government Relations team at Australia’s #1 university.  Work with the ANU Executive and across the University to strengthen government engagement and integrate our world-leading academic excellence into government policy-making processes.  The Senior Government Relations Officer will build relationships with political representatives, the public service leaders and the broader policy-making community to protect ANU’s interests and showcase its work as a national and global institution.   

Reporting to the Head of Government Relations, the Senior Government Relations Officer will: 

  • Investigate, research and advise on key policy issues, political developments and policy proposals. 

  • Monitor and interpret the University’s policy and political environment to support the delivery of government relations objectives. 

  • Prepare submissions to government policy development processes and parliamentary inquiries in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders.  

  • Support the ANU Executive and academics engaging with government with high level advice and tactical assistance.  

  • Represent the Office of Commonwealth & Government Relations within University governance and administration processes.   

  • Develop and maintain relationships with parliamentarians and their staff, senior public servants, kindred organisations, and internal ANU stakeholders.  

  • Coordinate the provision communication plans, risk issue registers and resource management plans to optimise the delivery of services in a timely manner.
