Director, National Centre for Indigenous Studies (NCIS)
Job no: 526914
Work type: Fixed Term
Location: Canberra / ACT
As Australia’s national university, we have a unique responsibility to Indigenous Australia: to shape and advance the national conversation on reconciliation and recognition, to progress vital research on issues impacting the lives of Indigenous peoples, and to provide a stimulating and supportive home for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars and leaders.
The ANU Strategic Plan locates the National Centre for Indigenous Studies (NCIS) as a focal point for the University’s Indigenous engagement, education and research. The University is now seeking a successor to Professor Mick Dodson AM as Director of the Centre, to build upon and expand an exceptional legacy of achievement and contribution.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and President, Nobel Laureate Professor Brian P. Schmidt AC, this opportunity to lead the NCIS is also an opportunity to shape and guide public debate and influence the national agenda. The Director will be a member of the University Senior Management Group and a leader in deepening our understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories, ensuring that Indigenous knowledge, perspectives and experiences are respected and incorporated into our academic activities.
The Director will work collaboratively to facilitate a cross-institutional and inter-disciplinary approach to Indigenous Studies. The successful candidate will be a strategic and operational leader with excellent academic credentials supporting their knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and society.
This is an identified position in accordance with the University’s Identified Position Policy and only Indigenous Australians are eligible to apply.
