Salary package: $68,704– $81,030 per annum plus 17% Superannuation

This position is funded by the recently awarded ARC project ‘Signalling pathways for sexual differentiation of apicomplexan parasites’. This project aims to unravel the crucial sexual development of the malaria parasites. Only sexually differentiated parasites can survive in the mosquito vector and hence this development is essential for the parasite's life-cycle. However, very little is known about the sex-specific differences in the malaria parasite. This project will employ an innovative new approach that separates female from male parasites, thus enabling new information to be gleaned about the development of these parasites.
The expected outcomes are an understanding of the mechanisms of sexual differentiation and a functional characterisation of novel sex-specific molecules, which are pivotal prerequisites for new approaches to parasite intervention.
Teams from the Australian National University, Monash University, and the University of Glasgow will be involved in the project.
The Research Officer will provide comprehensive support on a diverse range of research activities, primarily in the areas of malaria parasite culturing, but also parasite transfection, flow cytometry imaging and lipid and protein biochemistry. As such, we are looking for a candidate with experience in biological and molecular processes and cell culturing.
If you have experience in basic laboratory maintenance as well as knowledge of general laboratory WHS procedures, proven organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload we would welcome an application from you.
The position is based in the Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry, within the Research School of Biology.
