Seismology and Mathematical Geophysics Group (http://rses.anu.edu.au/research/groups/seismology-mathematical-geophysics) at The Research School of Earth Sciences (http://rses.anu.edu.au) is seeking to appoint a Assistant at the Warramunga Seismic and Infrasound Research Station, 35km from Tennant Creek, Northern Territory.
The Research Station operates a 24-element seismic array and an 8-element infrasound array as part of the International Monitoring System for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO). Data is transmitted by satellite link to the International Data Centre in Vienna. Information about CTBTO can be found at: https://www.ctbto.org/
The Technical Assistant position will support the operation and maintenance of the arrays to meet Treaty standards and requirements. Duties include the operation of the seismic and infrasound monitoring facilities as well as the servicing, troubleshooting, repair and modification of a wide range of scientific, power system and communication equipment. A 4WD and tractor operating license and machinery operating skills are essential. Knowledge and experience of seismic and infrasound instruments, with UHF telemetry and PC networking would be an advantage.
Please note that due to the remote nature of the Warranunga Seismic and Infrasound Research Station, experience working in a remote location is a favourable attribute.
