The Pacific Manuscripts Bureau copies archives, manuscripts and rare printed material relating to the Pacific Islands. The aim of the Bureau is to help with long-term preservation of the documentary heritage of the Pacific Islands and to make it accessible.
The Pacific Manuscripts Bureau is based in the College of Asia and the Pacific at The Australian National University. It is a non-profit organisation sponsored by an international consortium of libraries specialising in Pacific research. It is a rare example in the world of an on-going archival project involving a high level of international cooperation and commitment.
As Executive Officer you will be responsible for managing the administration of the Bureau, implementing digital preservation archival projects and developing strategies to further develop the Bureau.
The Executive Officer will identify, develop, organise and implement the Bureau's preservation digitisation projects for historically significant manuscripts, archives, photographs, audio-visual and rare printed material relating to the Pacific Islands. The position involves fieldwork in the Pacific Islands.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of, and experience in, archival administration. They will be flexible, able to work independently in different contexts and environments, including managing projects and staff, liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders and processing and digitising archives. Knowledge of the Pacific Islands, or experience of working in the Pacific Islands is desirable.
